The Advantages of Glass Fencing for Your Home's Pool Area
Posted on: 16 June 2017
When you have a pool at home, you are probably legally required to have a fence around it; this is to keep out unwanted guests and animals and to protect against your own children getting into the pool area unsupervised. There are many choices for the type of material and style that are legally acceptable for pool fencing, but note a few advantages of glass pool fencing so you know why this choice should be at the top of your list when you're ready to start shopping.
Maintenance and durability
All fences need maintenance, but a glass fence may need the least amount of work and repair over the years. Metal fences will rust and corrode or may need a fresh application of their powder coating to keep them sealed, and wood fences will suffer rot and decay and may eventually expand and shrink over time.
Glass fences, however, need very little maintenance; the hinges on the gates may need occasional oiling, and the metal fasteners and clips may need polishing, but otherwise, cleaning the glass with a squeegee is usually all that's needed to keep the fence looking its best. Glass fences are also very difficult to break, unlike wood fences, and the panels won't ever sag or need tightening, unlike hurricane fencing. The weight of the glass, and the solid panels, also mean it's unlikely that the fence would ever get blown over in a storm, and of course the glass is fire resistant, so it's better than a wood fence for properties where there is an increased risk of brush fires.
Decor
With a glass fence, you can change the decor or look of your outdoor space without worrying if the fence will coordinate. If you currently have a rustic wood deck with wood furniture, you can change that to upscale patio pavers and metal furniture easily, without changing the fence. A wood fence, however, may look out of place with modern decor, and a metal fence may seem too imposing for a relaxed and rustic patio space.
Security
All fences will provide some measure of security, but note that a chain link or mesh fence may provide a toehold for those who want to climb the fence, while a solid glass panel is very difficult to scale. Also, glass cannot be cut or bent very easily, unlike a metal mesh or chain link fence, also adding to your property's overall security.
